History

Sakti, the district headquarters, is situated on National Highway 49. Sakti district formation was announced on 15 August 2021 by Chief Minister. It is the 33rd district of Chhattisgarh. Sakti district was inaugurated on 9 September 2022 by Chief Minister. This district has been formed by combining four blocks Sakti] Malkharoda] Jaijaipur and Dabhra. Sakti was one of the 14 princely states. Gond kings ruled here. The founders of this princely state were Hari and Gujar. There are abundant reserves of dolomite in the district. Therefore it is called Dolomite Hub of India. Agricultural implements are also manufactured here on a large scale. Mahanadi, Son and Borai are the major rivers flowing through this region.

Sakti, the headquarters of Sakti district, is 120 km from Bilaspur district and 220 km from Raipur district, the capital of Chhattisgarh state. Sakti South-Eastern-Central Railway: It is situated on the Mumbai-Howrah main railway line. By rail, Sakti is at a distance of 193 km from Chhattisgarh state capital Raipur, 82 km from Bilaspur and 41 km from native district Janjgir Champa. The nearest stations from the district headquarters are Baradwar and Sakti.
